I could have titled this article, “The Benefits of Knowing Python” since Python has become the leading AI language of choice. Instead, I tried something else: After reading about Elon Musk and the Microsoft open AI partnership, I decided since I wanted an update on jobs in AI, I would let AI write this article! I signed up for an AI service that is plugged into GPT3, provided a couple of lines of instruction, and let it rip! Below, read the result.
*Note: The AI tactfully avoided pointing out it’s going to replace a lot of blog writers as well!
According to the latest surveys conducted by researchers, almost 65% of America’s businesses are planning to implement AI in their organizations within the next five years. Without a doubt, implementing AI can lead to the elimination of a lot of human jobs. In fact, in areas such as medical diagnosis, speech translation, and accounting, AI has outperformed humans in every way imaginable. In the next 20 years, it’s estimated that about 7 million jobs will be displaced by AI. However, it will also lead to the generation of 7.2 million new jobs, which is a net gain of 200,000 jobs. * PwC Auditing and Accounting Firm
11 reasons why AI will create more jobs than it takes
- Data Science. The new job positions will require specialized skills. For example, specialists with data science skills will be needed to examine work, evaluate it, and correct errors. Likewise, experts will be needed with high-level programming skills to improve the quality of work.
- AI Maintenance Jobs. As AI gets implemented in every industry, the demand for an AI maintenance workforce is going to skyrocket. Companies would need large amounts of AI developers and engineers to maintain their systems. There are over 700,000 technical roles across the UK and Europe currently unfilled. At the same time, there is a growing number of jobs in AI, machine learning, and data science. The demand for engineers will only grow in the coming years.
- AI in Robotics. The area of robotics will see massive growth in the next few years. Because of this increased demand for AI-based robots such as stationary robots, non-humanoid land robots, and fully automated aerial drones, there will be a strong increase in job-related roles in conjunction with AI.
- AI facilitators. Reminiscent of the Admin, AI facilitators will help companies to build their own AI environments. They will also manage the companies’ virtual assistants as well as ensure they work as efficiently as possible without compromising on security, governance, data control, and compliance.
- AI in Healthcare. In the near future, AI-powered healthcare will be available at a scale and on-demand for everyone. Because the technology will soon be able to perform at scale and on-demand, the need for AI-assisted healthcare technician jobs will continue to increase substantially both now and in the near future.
- AI in the Gaming Industry. The gaming industry is one area where AI applications are absolutely booming. Right from game design and development to in-game operations and maintenance, AI plays an indispensable role that is reaping huge rewards for gaming companies. With virtual reality games becoming increasingly popular, this trend is likely to continue.
- AI in Transportation. As technology takes over more and more of the self-driving transportation sector, there’s going to be a growing demand for engineers who can program this technology.
- AI in the Financial Sector. Financial companies rely on systems that can identify and mitigate fraud, as well as monitor transaction requests to identify suspicious activity. In addition, the financial sector is increasingly using machine learning-based anomaly detection models to orchestrate customer journeys on their most preferred channels and at scale in real-time.
- AI in Education. The education industry is increasingly becoming invested in e-learning. Educators are shifting their focus towards concepts such as smart content, personalized learning, and other data-driven operations that are increasingly dependent on AI.
- AI in Entertainment. The entertainment industry has seen potential in AI technology. Streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu are already using machine learning technology in their business model. By identifying the online behavior of consumers, machine learning algorithms help in recommending media in the ever-increasing competition for media share.
- AI and Virtual Digital Assistants. Digital assistants are increasingly capable of performing complex tasks. Research by Zion Market Research shows that the global intelligent virtual assistant market will reach $19.6 billion by 2025. This estimate indicates that many jobs for digital assistants will be created in this industry.
I was pretty amazed at the quality of work done by AI in generating this article, so I decided to run a plagiarism test, and found 58% totally unique, and of the remaining 42% – plagiarized/questionable, none of it was a direct match, although I did find 22% was from a trade journal, 12% from a magazine article, and 8% from a newspaper, all 3 articles were “source only” and the material was rewritten.
If you are interested in AI as a career, Python would be a good place to start, or if you would like to play with AI, I used copy.ai for this article, which is the least expensive of the AI services using GPT3, which with 175 billion machine parameters, dwarfs the earlier GPT2 which had “only” 1.5 billion parameters. Thank you Elon Musk and Microsoft for the concept and development.
How about a free ATS Resume Evaluation?
When I am not playing with AI and the Internet of Things, I write professional and executive resumes. If you would like to see how ATS, driven by Artificial Intelligence scores your resume (or maybe you would just like to know if you are being blocked by ATS from the interview stack) just attach your resume and send to: [email protected] and I will send you the scan results along with a personal review from a recruiter’s perspective. Just allow me a day or so, as lately, I am up to my armpits in work!
Cheers!
