My Personal Message to You!
The game changer is the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI). A competitive resume must be written for both the human reader and AI – requirements for each are distinctly different.
Also critical, is adherence to a two page limit in terms of a Professional Resume or a max of three pages in terms of an Executive C-Suite offering.
We are now in the era of the Smart Resume. In the early days of AI all the benefits accrued to the recruiters and hiring managers. Weeks of recruiting and evaluation at a cost of thousands of dollars to the employer in order to produce 5 qualified interviews, can now be compressed into a few minutes. Virtually all recruiters and about 80% of employers now use AI driven Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
Today, it’s possible for AI to screen all resumes, select the best candidates, delete resumes that do not score within a certain threshold, set appointments and schedule interviews without any human interaction! It is possible that the hiring manager will be seeing your resume for the first time, about 5 minutes before your interview!
Enter the Smart Resume. AI will read, interpret and evaluate your resume against the employer’s requirements and if you meet certain criteria, AI will then start comparing you against other submitted resumes. After the best resumes are selected, in some cases, AI will then compare the best submitted resumes against resumes stored in various Applicant Tracking Systems (such as LinkedIn) and reach out with offers to apply to those prospects as well. This is the reason you will occasionally receive unsolicited offers from AI headhunters. Obviously, it is well worth the effort to have a Smart Resume on file with ATS.
In the beginning, resumes were static data points and ATS sliced and diced and made all the calls on whether a candidate met the criteria. I began to notice that the best candidate did not always make it to the interview. AI driven ATS can be a heartless screen! In response, I have developed what I call a Smart Resume, which reads well to the human, but since the first encounter is with AI, I will develop your resume into a document that can be used to actually program AI! Think of it as hidden software instructions that supercharge your resume! And it works! In fact, it REALLY works!
